Our Story
Where It All Began
In 1967, as development pressure began reshaping Singer Island, a group of residents came together to ensure the community had a voice in its future. What started as a response to rapid change quickly became a unified effort to protect the character and livability of the island.
A key turning point came with proposed zoning changes near Sugar Sands, raising concerns about density, infrastructure, and long-term impact. In response, residents organized and established what would become the Singer Island Civic Association which would lay the foundation for leadership committed to responsible growth and preservation.
Growth and Change
As Singer Island became more accessible and desirable in the decades following its early development, the pace of construction accelerated. Waterfront properties, once modest in scale, began giving way to larger residential buildings and condominium developments, reshaping the island’s skyline and character.
With this growth came increasing concerns from residents about density, infrastructure, and the long-term impact on the community. The Singer Island Civic Association became an active voice during this period—advocating for balanced development while working to preserve the environmental integrity and coastal identity that make the island unique.

Today, the Singer Island Civic Association remains committed to representing residents, advocating for responsible planning, and protecting the unique coastal character that defines the community. Through ongoing engagement, collaboration, and awareness, SICA continues to serve as a voice for those who call Singer Island home.
